We are seeking a Tax Manager with 5 plus years’ experience in technical tax competencies for preparing various returns, federal tax compliance, planning and consulting at a public accounting firm. This individual will be responsible for managing multiple tax engagements and delivering quality client service. This position, has significant growth potential, requires strong technical ability combined with good interpersonal communication skills to deliver quality service for our clients. Experience assisting businesses with tax and consulting matters or government contracting experience is a plus. CPA license required.
The position would be based in- office at our Leesburg or Frederick office locations, or could be a hybrid split in office.
Responsibilities:
Develop a book of business and expands personal production (managed business, new business, and personal billings) according to individual performance plan.
Manages staff workflow, delegate work to staff and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the firm's policies
Provide technical tax support for the staff and other team members, as a resource to all.
Prepare personal, corporate, estate, and trust tax returns, including more complex cases
Review of all tax returns
Oversee the completion of tax compliance of filing deadlines for the managers’ “responsible client list”.
Take ownership of multiple engagements and understands the significance of operational effectiveness and firm profitability.
Manage client expectations. Understand clients’ current and long-term business objectives and exhibit a strong understanding of how specific transactions impact their business.
Analyze client needs and proactively proposes solutions focusing on delivering value-added services.
Manage client relationships as the point of contact for the managers’ “responsible client list” providing distinctive client service through accessibility and proactive interaction.
Manage the budget for compliance projects and assures efficient completion of tasks by the staff.
Proactive communications with clients.
Demonstrate expert knowledge of an area or specialty.
Provide feedback, establishes goals, and creates career paths for all staff levels.
Maintain mastery of and helps others develop effective work paper techniques and correct documentation skills, an understanding of Firm and Department administrative procedures and processes, and the use of software
Display leadership beyond immediate workgroup by proactively participating in firm initiatives.
Strong communication and presentation skills leading to productivity and positive results.
Maintain client relationships and business expansion and development.
Prepare invoices and assists with collections for the managers’ “responsible client list”.
Administrative responsibilities in a predetermined area (systems, training, policy and procedures, recruiting, etc.)
Monitor, cultivate, educate existing staff, and recruits new talent.
Maintain business relationships in the industry and other related business associations with the goal of creating a brand name for D&S and growing their book of business.
Continue to develop industry specialization(s) and expertise in a chosen field(s).
Other Functions:
Possess time management and organization skills
Demonstrate industry expertise and technical knowledge
Manage/mentor staff and Assist with recruitment and training of other tax department personnel
Develop an entrepreneurial approach to client service and develop good working relationships with client personnel
Maintain contacts with peers, develop a network of business contacts, meet with prospective clients, and cultivate referrals
Attend professional development and training sessions to keep upto-date with regulatory and industry changes and to meet your individual CPE plan
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
Job Qualification:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or another related program
Advanced degree (generally a law degree or a master's in taxation) is strongly desired
CPA certification
At least 5+ years of recent relevant public accounting, tax, and review experience (experience with trusts is a plus)
At least 3+ years of management experience and the ability to lead and develop professional staff
Proficiency in the use of computers and tax software programs (Thomson Reuters software, Ultratax, QuickBooks, etc. preferred)
Ability to manage multiple client engagements and prioritize work
