Position Overview
The Accountant prepares and maintains the financial records to track the Flinn Foundation’s(Foundation) profit and loss, assets, liabilities, investments, program activities, grants, and other related financial activities while maintaining internal controls in conjunction with the Vice President & CFO.
This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position, reporting to the Vice President and CFO. The position pays $70,000-$75,000 per year, with comprehensive benefits, including paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave; health insurance; and retirement plan. (See additional information below.)

Responsibilities and Duties
- Maintains the general ledger by creating all journal entries for approval by the Vice President & CFO.
- Reconciles general ledger accounts including grants payable, payroll, retirement, prepaids, and other ledger accounts.
- Along with the Vice President & CFO, gathers and submits necessary information and documents to perform annual audit. Provides outside auditors with audit confirmations and assistance at all points of audit.
- Along with the Vice President & CFO, provides outside tax preparer with assistance; gathers and submits necessary information and documents for the preparation of the various tax returns.
- Maintains the accounting software by setting up new accounts and vendors, and other items.
- Reconciles bank accounts monthly including reconciliation reports.
- Processes all accounts payable invoices, both ACH and checks, using batch processing. Invoices are then reviewed by Business
- Operations and Facilities Manager and CFO for separation of duties.
- Prepares monthly schedules including statement of operations, bank balances, sources and uses of cash, and cash flows.
- Manages annual budget process including budgeting software and updates.
- Assists with preparing relevant third-party surveys and other forms.
- Maintains monthly grant and scholarship-recipient financial records.
- Verifies total payroll amount and creates journal entry using ADP portal.
- Follows internal controls and makes recommendations, if needed.
- Monitors and manages dedicated email in-boxes for investment correspondence; invoices; grants.
- Manages grants management software to:
- Post all payments to the system.
- Run month-end reports balancing grants management system to general ledger and other reports.
- Create all scholarship-recipient grant records.
- Perform other duties to ensure grants records are maintained.
- Prepares and manages process for annual filing of Forms 1099 and 1096.
- Assists with portfolio investments administration including capital calls, reporting schedules, and data collection.
- Maintains petty cash and processes reimbursements.
- Deposits checks received at the office.
- Coordinates with the software consultant to maintain accounting software system and recommends updates.
- Assists with identification and implementation of new software and technology tools.
- Recommends solutions to problems and process improvements identified through performance of assigned tasks including software and technology tools and best practices.
- Undertakes other tasks as assigned and contributes to cooperative and collegial shared responsibility for fostering excellence at the Foundation.
- Fosters the mission and values of the Flinn Foundation, including a commitment to inclusive excellence across internal practices, engagement with the community, and philanthropic activities.
- Maintains professional development (continuing education and relevant association membership) in areas of professional responsibility.

Location/Schedule
Central Phoenix. This position functions primarily at the Flinn Foundation facility during regular office hours, typically Monday – Friday. This position allows for some remote work; specific arrangements are determined in consultation with the Vice President and CFO.
Wages and Benefits
The Flinn Foundation provides competitive compensation, commensurate with skills and experience. This position pays $70,000-$75,000 per year.

Requirements
Skills and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting.
- Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- High proficiency in accounting software.
- Ability to analyze financial data and internal controls.
- Demonstrated technical skills, including:
- Use of Microsoft 365 applications, social media, and other software tools (e.g., customer relationship management, project management, remote participation, cloud storage), or capacity to learn and demonstrate proficiency.
- General experience with and understanding of database software and internet technology.
- High proficiency in the usage of accounting software (e.g., Sage 100 or other).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize work, work independently, and collaborate with others.
- Ability to function in a high-paced environment.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- At least three years of related experience required.
- CPA license is preferred.
Physical and Other Requirements
- This position functions in the Flinn Foundation office at least 80% of the time each week.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license.
- Current auto insurance on personal vehicle.
