We are a private investment firm dedicated to the global asset management for a Forbes 400 family who owns and operates one of the largest closely-held companies in the world. We provide a wide array of services to four generations of family members, including investment execution and reporting, tax planning and preparation, wealth transfer strategies, and philanthropy administration.
We are growing rapidly and seeking a talented, hands-on individual to work as part of a team interfacing with ultra-high net worth clients and their affiliated investments. We need an experienced and reliable tax manager who is seeking interesting work outside of a CPA firm. This position will report to the CFO and will work within the accounting team to accomplish interdepartmental goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee all client-related tax functions, including but not limited to preparation of tax returns, projections of estimated tax payments, and resolution of IRS/state tax authority requests for audits for individuals, trusts, partnerships, and foundations.
Act as point person with outside public accountants for the preparation of certain larger/more complex tax returns.
Respond to client and other internal and external parties’ inquiries and requests.
Read and summarize trust agreements; Calculate and oversee trust distributions and note payments.
Oversee the accounting for trusts, foundations, and investment LLCs; supervise and mentor staff accountant on tax-related tasks.
Research and consult on technical tax matters pertaining to the clients; primary focus on individual income, fiduciary tax, estate and gift tax, charitable planning. Maintain knowledge of current tax legislation and issues that affect ultra-high-net worth families.
Manage special projects as needed.
Interact closely with clients’ other advisors such as attorneys, as well as the internal investment team to identify client specific planning opportunities, and to ensure that all tax matters are handled consistently across each family’s inter-related entities.
Demonstrate excellent team skills, positive attitude, and high ethical standards.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Master’s degree in Taxation preferred
Minimum of 4 years of relevant tax consulting and compliance experience with a CPA firm &/or family office
Proficient in CCH ProSystemfx, BNA income tax planner, QuickBooks and Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook)
Strong background working with high net worth individuals is required; Experience with fiduciary tax and accounting, estate planning, gift tax returns, partnerships, &/or foundations is desirable
Experience with complex K-1’s and computing partnership tax basis
Working knowledge and solid understanding of financial statements and accounting
Good project management skills with ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task daily, as well as work independently
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in performing duties
