Assistant Vice Chancellor for Finance and Controller:
The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Finance and Controller provides leadership of campus-wide accounting operations as well as financial reporting expertise. The Controller directs all accounting activities, is responsible for all financial reporting, both internal and external, and oversees the external audit process. Additionally, this position provides financial leadership to the various divisions of UAMS and develops, interprets, and maintains policies and regulations related to accounting and financial reporting issues.
About the Division of Finance:
The Finance Division provides management oversight and coordination of core functions including financial accounting and reporting, budgeting, revenue cycle, treasury operations, supply chain management, grants accounting, student accounts and financial aid, and contract services. The division employs more than 700 individuals across these operations, each of whom is dedicated to providing services effectively and efficiently to UAMS’ patients, students, faculty and staff and the communities UAMS serves across the state of Arkansas.

Role & Responsibilities:
Leadership and control of financial activities related to general ledger accounting, financial reporting, accounts payable, payroll, and travel.
Demonstrated knowledge of GAAP, GASB, and FASB.
Coordinating the monthly accounting close process including analytical review of the monthly operating results to ensure accurate accounting records are maintained.
Establishing and maintaining effective and efficient internal controls over accounting and financial reporting functions including documentation of accounting and control policies.
Administering the fiscal policies, accounting procedures and internal control systems governing the daily transaction of the university’s financial resources.
Serving as an expert on accounting issues and related best practices and procedures and provide guidance and education in financial management practices to department managers.
Overseeing requests for financial information to all auditors, both internal and external.
Supervising, mentoring and directing accounting and finance staff on a daily basis.
Working closely with peers within the Division of Finance to advance the operational goals of the division.
Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to provide service, information, and advice as needed. Represent the finance department as a subject matter expert in various meetings and committees. At all times, model the core values of UAMS.
The ideal candidate will have the following professional qualifications and personal characteristics:
Bachelors or Master’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
10 years of progressive career experience in accounting and finance, healthcare or higher education preferred.
Five plus years of proven supervisory experience
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure preferred
Must be able to interact with key internal stakeholders including but is not limited, to Senior Leadership, Campus Budget Office, Research Support, Human Resources, Information Technology, Facilities Management, Treasurer and members of the Administrative Council
Must be able to interact with key external stakeholders including but is not limited to, UA System Office, Internal Audit, External Auditors
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate the financial condition of the organization to the CFO and other members of campus leadership.
Maintains compliance with all laws and applicable regulatory requirements. Acts promptly to comply with required changes.
Experience in operational and financial management and leadership in a hospital, academic health center, or group practice environment
Leadership as well as organizational and interpersonal skills needed to effectively operate in the complex environment of an academic health center
