The Assistant Director of Finance reports directly to the Director of Finance and is responsible for the financial management of the General Service Office (GSO) by providing vital internal accounting and system controls. The incumbent oversees accounting and contributions functions and has the principle duty of safeguarding the assets of Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc. (AAWS), while ensuring sound financial management throughout the organization.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, budgets and internal audit projects for senior management, Board members and external auditors; monitors cash flow on a daily basis to ensure that all business needs, obligations, and payroll are met without interruption.
Oversees all financial transactions and ensures that they are properly summarized, approved, coded and recorded in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
Assists with the management of A.A.W.S., the General Service Board, and General Service Office risk management program; monitors all A.A.W.S., General Service Board, and General Service Office insurance programs including, but not limited to, general liability insurance, Directors and Officers liability insurance, and all insured employee benefit and welfare programs.
Manages and reviews accounts receivable activity; ensures trade receivable receipts are made on a timely basis, deposited to operating accounts daily and reconciled to bank statements daily; ensures follow up on trade receivables outstanding 60 days or more.
Manages and reviews accounts payable activity; ensures all original invoices are properly vouched and approved and that discounts are taken where appropriate.
Acts as a reviewer and as a signatory on checks.
Ensures preparation of quarterly GST and Sales tax filing and payments.
Assists in providing leadership to the employees in the Accounting and Contributions departments; assisting in hiring, performance reviews, salary & merit increase administration, recognition, discipline, and training of employees.
Participates in GSO Leadership and other inter-departmental committees and task-forces that provides strategies and efficient organizational functions.
Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is desirable.
Seven years of financial management experience required; three plus years of supervisory experience and experience working within a non-profit organization.
Proficiency in accounting software packages specifically Open Systems’ Traverse software and a financial systems background using Windows based environment. Familiarity working in both Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN) environments.
Excellent leadership and management skills.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills required.
